About the Club

N.A.S.H.S. was formed by a group of breed enthusiasts who for years were showing and promoting the breed around the Sydney circuit, some from as early as 1986 –1998. Tired of the monopoly often associated with having only one organisation we sought to better the breeds prospects and set out with the aim to bring together other Saddlebred enthusiasts, owners and breeders with a common goal towards the improvement and promotion of the breed in Australia.

N.A.S.H.S. offers a prompt reliable service with minimum delays. Fees and paperwork are kept to a minimum and the rules are based on rules originally set down by ASHA USA, with adaptations for Australian conditions.

All work done for the club is voluntary and operated by a small team of skilled enthusiasts in their spare time.

Mission Statement

It is our mission to achieve recognition of the qualities of the American Saddlebred breed in Australia and to provide the best possible support to our members.

Since 2006 NASHS registered performance Saddlebred horses have been exported to Dubai and to USA, making inroads for the locally bred Saddlebred into previously un-chartered markets further a field than Australia. Note that those horses did not require “international recognition” or “approval”.

Their success internationally is based on performance and ability combined with skilful training.

Today NASHS is 13 years on and still growing strong!

Freedom of choice

There are two Saddlebred clubs in Australia, we believe it gives people an alternative choice.

There are more than one association in lots of areas of life, whether it be sporting arenas or educational or entertainment.

We all make a choice on which to join unless we are extremely zealous & choose to join everything that involves our specific area of interest.

Some questions to ask yourself are.....

Do I gain anything by being in one association over the other?

What will it cost from a membership, breeding point of view etc?

What do I, on a personal level, require of an association?

Which is subsequently the best fit for me?

There should not be any need for slandering by associations on either side. NASHS does not promote that kind of negativity and the breed certainly will not benefit from it and can well do without it. We are only interested in doing what's best for our members and promoting the American Saddlebred in Australia.

We have members who belong to both Australian clubs as well as the American club and possibly other clubs, we also have members who choose just to be members of NASHS.

It’s all just called “ freedom of choice”.
